When you are pregnant, this does not mean that you can eat everything in front of your face so as to get enough food for baby. It is important that you should have a healthy pregnancy which means that a proper diet must be carefully undertaken during your pregnancy.

What is a healthy pregnancy diet?

You must get plenty of all necessary nutrition, vitamins and minerals during your pregnancy. A good healthy pregnancy diet includes food that is rich in nutrients and high in fiber like iron and other minerals. You may follow the USDA food pyramid for getting some ideas of what are those food should be. Moreover, a healthy pregnancy diet will also includes six to eleven servings of grains, four or more servings of vegetables, two to four servings of fruits, for or more servings of dairy products, and at least three servings of protein. During your pregnancy, fats and sweets should be kept at a least level. Most doctors advice that pregnant women should take a multi vitamin with folic acid. Typically, manufacturers now produce vitamins specifically for pregnant women with extra folic acid and iron.

Get rid of some food during pregnancy diet period

Any kind of raw seafood should be cut out of pregnant women’s diet. These include oysters and sushi rolls with raw seafood on them. Also, raw meat and poultry are not good at all for pregnancy diet. For a healthy pregnancy diet, you should also take out milk that has not been pasteurized and soft cheeses. Drinking alcohol and smoking are dangerous activities for your pregnancy diet and should be cut out. Tuna and other deep-sea fish are acceptable for pregnancy diet, but should be consumed only once a week. Tea or coffee is also suggested by doctors to have it a cup daily only. A diet soda is also recommended to enjoy once in awhile during pregnancy.

A meal for two

Is it true that you have to eat at least twice of what you were eating before? You may ever hear that you should eat twice portion as to get enough food for baby. That is not true. What pregnant women want is actually only more caloric intake per day for a healthy pregnancy diet. You will need to increase only around 300 calories daily which means that you should be eating about 2,500 calories per day. You may also experience craving which is normal during pregnancy. In this case, you are allowed to have those foods that you are craving, but with appropriate portion.
